What recommendations can anyone give me regarding using external mics and the Iphone with the Report It Live App?

For example- will a Mikey 2  from Blue work with the App?

I read about the KV cable which allows you to then use a mic of your choice with XLR connectors- I was hoping for something more compact.
What about some of these small mic elements mounted on a 1/8" jack?  Are they better than the internal Iphone mic?

Using the Report It Live and the Iphone mic- the quality is a notch or so less than what I get with a Zoom H2. Is that about what others are noticing?

Thanks for any and all replies.  :D

Hi Ron,

Thank you for your enquiry about external mics and compatibility with Report-IT.

Tieline will release a dedicated mic adapter dock for use with Report-IT in quarter 4 of this year. This will allow you to connect a pro XLR mic and use 2 sets of headphones etc. More information is available on this at http://www.tieline.com/products/G5/Mic-Adapter

If you need an interim solution you can use the KV cable, but be aware that there is quite a severe roll-off at 200 hertz when using the mic input on the iPhone, no matter what cable you connect. This is a function of the iPhone and cannot be adjusted within Report-IT or any other app. Tieline’s Mic Adapter will deliver three octaves of richer, warmer, low frequency response from 20Hz to 200Hz and perfectly reproduces the mid and high frequency ranges - so if you can wait until its release this will definitely deliver the best quality solution for you.

Regarding the Mikey2, it is my understanding that it does not work with the iPhone 4 (please check the manufacturer's latest information and specifications to confirm this), so I am not sure if this counts that out for you.

If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.
