Tieline has been overwhelmed with the success of all its variants of Report-IT for iOS, and so it is natural that the question as to when we will be providing an Android and WP7.x version of Report-IT is very common.
We have been constantly assessing the viability of Android and WP7.x as a Report-IT platform (as documented in
http://forums.tieline.com/forum/remote-broadcasting-newsgathering/why-just-the-iphone/
and
http://forums.tieline.com/forum/remote-broadcasting-newsgathering/report-it-release-announcements/msg212/#msg212
)
and have been conducting R&D as to the viability of these platforms.
Unfortunately, we still face many commercial concerns that make it difficult for us to commit to adding the Report-IT suite of apps to these platforms at this stage.
As well as those listed in the aforementioned links, many of our customers have highlighted the following concerns:
1. The majority of the broadcasters seem to be reluctant to introduce Android devices into their enterprise environments (as many have done with Blackberry and now iOS with Apple's MDM). The major reasons for this seem to revolve around the fragmentation and device diversity that make supporting Android a very costly and difficult exercise for them. When managing hundreds of reporters and contributors, many of which are not technically savvy, this is a very real problem.
2.
The malware and security issues that are associated with Android.
These are of course are the opinions of a number of customers, and not those of Tieline, and we would love to hear from any of you as to whether there is any evidence to suggest this is not the case at your place of employment.
We currently have no plans to develop a WP7.x version of Report-IT. We are also currently not planning on releasing our Android version of Report-IT just yet, however we are still keeping an eye on the situation along with the upcoming Windows 8.
